Mauricio Medina
I was born and raised in Colombia, South America. After moving to the United States, I earned my Bachelors of Arts from Northeastern Illinios University majoring in Special Education, Learning Disabilities with a minor in Elementary Education. From there, I went on to earn a Masters Degree from Piedmont College in Early Childhood Education then received my Specialist Degree from Lincoln Memorial University. Recently (January 2019) graduated from Mercer University with a second Masters Degree in School Leadership.
I have been teaching for the past 29 years. The first 10 years were spent in Chicago's inner city schools teaching 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. After moving to Atlanta and joining Gwinnett County, I taught for 3 years at B.B. Harris Elementary, 3 years at J.C. Magill, 7 years at Norton Elementary teaching fifth grade, five years at Kanoheda Elementary and now this is my second year at Annistown in the DLI program.
I am married and have four wonderful children ages 31, 25, 15 and fourteen. In my spare time, I collect toy cars and practice kickboxing. This summer, I spent time in our backyard pool and riding bikes with my young boys at Tribble Mill Park.
This is going to be a great year for our class!
